Stevie General Store now (also) sells nail color. The peel-off kind. In BRIGHT NEON colors. Available nowhere on our ape-alien planet but at 93 Club Street!!! (I mean color your nails so that they can be peeled off.)

Oh, but it is dirty!
– this little filling station,
oil-soaked, oil-permeated
to a disturbing, over-all
black translucency.
Be careful with that match!

Father wears a dirty,
oil-soaked monkey suit
that cuts him under the arms,
and several quick and saucy
and greasy sons assist him
(it’s a family filling station),
all quite thoroughly dirty.

Do they live in the station?
It has a cement porch
behind the pumps, and on it
a set of crushed and grease-
impregnated wickerwork;
on the wicker sofa
a dirty dog, quite comfy.

Some comic books provide
the only note of color–
of certain color. They lie
upon a big dim doily
draping a taboret
(part of the set), beside
a big hirsute begonia.

Why the extraneous plant?
Why the taboret?
Why, oh why, the doily?
(Embroidered in daisy stitch
with marguerites, I think,
and heavy with gray crochet.)

Somebody embroidered the doily.
Somebody waters the plant,
or oils it, maybe. Somebody
arranges the rows of cans
so that they softly say:
ESSO–SO–SO–SO

to high-strung automobiles.
Somebody loves us all.

The dreams of the young. I once wanted to study Elizabeth Bishop. And that was all I wanted for myself. Now I want so much more. Yet I’m unable to specify one.

The dreams of the young remain with them.

By once young we don’t really mean ourselves. It’s our landlord. Now this guy is one of the strangest man I’ve met in my life, and I HAVE been friends with quite a few, but none shines in this light like Our Landlord. He is in the midst of clearing up the rooms upstairs for the new tenant (an aromatherapy spa for doggies!! 93 Club Street is going to be a very jolly place!), and such has presented us with a massive framed old photo of himself. You know the dull fear we have about our dated old photos? That all does not apply for him. Why?

You will know if you come into Stevie the next time. We can only hope he finds us artistic, appreciative.

The truth is I have always wanted to post a Girlfriends group shot here. But then I realise I don’t have girlfriends. All my girlfriends I have lost. Growing up is a horrible thing. But I know some of you have beautiful girlfriend photos. Here’s to Girlfriends, and that loss.

A rather long-haired brown mouse. We all have seen it, skirting the edges and walls of our place. That’s all he does now, when we let him into the house.

Seven minutes to six in the morning and I’ve been up since half past three. Voodoo!

P.S. Can you believe it is already the first day of June? I’ve done nothing except grow younger!!!

This is the first weapon jewelry from the hoon and the hohum. We have no packaging. Only pocky.

We put these up in the store yesterday and three have gone. They are almost perfect, these vintage eyewear we have hunted for awhile. Finally in store, if you need a new frame to replace your nondescript one here’s your good luck. Only a little damage will be done.
